Projects:
Recycling
Granted, this isn't so much a major construction project but still a great
one. One thing I wanted to instill in my children is a work ethic
and doing good things for the environment. We
drink a lot of bottled water in the office and we decided to save them
for the kids to recycle. Normally my kids can be impatient, but when
we go to the recycling faciility they do so well waiting in line and
moving and separateing. They have a sense of responsibility and
accomplishment by doing this. They also get more money than I would
pay for allowance. In our facility we get a cash value coupon to
use in the grocery store the facility is behind, so we get groceries
with that and give the kids the value of the coupon in cash to spend
as they please (although we encourage saving.)

Composting
Recently discussed on our podcast,
composting is an easy way to convert your green waste into usable fertalizer,
mulch or ground cover. There are ways to make your own or you can
buy various types of systems depending on the type of waste you have. Below
is a list of resources and different types of products.

Low Energy Lighting
This is something that can easily be done in a day or as needed basis.
Start replacing your light bulbs with Flourecent bulbs. They use a
ton less energy and last a long time. Some people don't like that
they take a short amount of time to get to their full brightness but
once they are there they can give off equivalent of 60W bulb while
using only 15W. Plus they stay cooler which won't raise the ambient
temperature around the bulb.
